The Pretty Reckless have released “About You (Bonus Version)”, bringing Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and Pat Smear into the fold for a new take on a track from their fifth studio album, DEAR GOD.
Grohl contributes drums, guitar and backing vocals, while Smear adds guitar to the collaboration. For frontwoman Taylor Momsen, it was a chance to revisit one of her favourite songs on the album with friends.
“About You is one of my favorite songs on the record, so I wanted to do something special,” Momsen says. “I called Dave and Pat and asked them if they’d lend their magic to it.”
She describes the session as an amazing time making music and jamming with friends, adding that she couldn’t be happier with the result.
The release arrives after a major milestone for the band. According to the announcement, “When I Wake Up” became their ninth No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, extending the record for a female-led act. DEAR GOD was produced by Taylor Momsen, Ben Phillips and Jonathan Wyman, with the record exploring vulnerability, intensity and creative freedom.
The Pretty Reckless have completed the North American leg of their headlining DEAR GOD Tour and wrapped up their time on AC/DC’s Power Up Tour after almost three years on the road with the rock legends. They also recently performed at the GRAMMY Museum and are preparing for the European leg of the DEAR GOD Tour.
Momsen has also kept busy outside the band’s touring schedule, reuniting with Soundgarden at the Seattle Seahawks’ season opener last month and taking part in a Soundgarden tribute at this year’s Power to the People Festival.
“About You (Bonus Version)” is out now.
