Little Quirks ‘The Beast EP’ National Tour, @ Factory Floor Sydney 17/10/2025.

The Beast of indie-folk music has awoken, and brings forth the sweet taste of Honey in the form of Central Coast sweethearts, Little Quirks. The band brings their national tour for the release of their fifth EP, ‘The Beast’, to Sydney’s quaint Factory Floor, after recently completing a national tour supporting Australian Jazz/pop party animals The Cat Empire. Little Quirks, who I’d heard of previously, captured my attention and interest, when they supported The Cat Empire in Sydney in August, so I wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to delve into what Little Quirks have inshore in their own headlining performance, especially not passing up connecting with the band for a fun chat before the show (watch interview here).

Let’s see what Little Quirks may arise tonight…

I already know from when seeing them support The Cat Empire in August, that Little Quirks have a attention-grabbing sound and performance, but at the end of the days, as lovely as this small, quaint venue is, with a capacity of I’m estimating, about 200 patrons, with a small up close stage, is a warm carpeted relaxing setting, has its limitations for what a band can work with, especially given the daily living costs and the financial struggle to keep the arts industry thriving in Australia at the best of times. So my expectations are a great sounding band, crowded on the stage, and can probably only deliver an hour-long set, due to venue and financial limitations, a nice intimate, raw show with nothing over the top, just good music played well, fair?

Honestly, Little Quirks surprise me, and exceed my expectations! So yes, it is a raw and intimate performance, but the calibre of the bands performance could and should be fitting to headline the Enmore Theatre or even the Sydney Opera House in my opinion!

Big call I know, but let me explain.

Firstly, it’s a full length 90 minute or so performance, the energy musically is well positioned to start off strong to raise the energy, ease at times in the thick of it to add contrast, which the band, lead by lead singer Abbey, speaks to us/responds to us one-on-one throughout, keeping our attention, then raising the energy back up towards the end to finish things on a high. The set also includes a spectacular cover of the iconic Dolly Parton hit ‘Jolene’, and in the encore, which we all cheer for, finishes the night with ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries, which the venue is filled with everyone singing along to.

Secondly, despite the smaller stage set-up, the band moves around energetically, especially Abbey, who’s wearing an elaborate flowing gown, which swirls, twirls, and billows around her as she flies around the stage in dance, reminding me of an enchanted fairy princess. I’m half expecting to find glitter showered over me at the end of the night.

And Thirdly, the sound is not just raw, it’s, well, delicious on the ears! It’s loud, of course, but not painfully, and like a professional setup, all sounds are mixed sublimely, with nothing drowning out anything. It’s so nice being able to hear all the sounds coming straight from the instruments/people on stage naturally, with the only amplification being from the fold-back speakers on stage, which it is more than enough to fill the intimate venue evenly.

As I previously mentioned, Abbey and the rest of the band speak to us, and respond to call outs as if we’re all just hanging out in someone’s lounge room listening to fun music, which is damn near impossible to replicate in a larger venue. We’re told about the stories of songs, the feelings and sentiments of them, and thanked profusely for being here and making it possible for the band!

My only regret is that the show clearly didn’t sell-out, as the room wasn’t at max capacity, sadly. For such a young local band, they have something truly special, which I’m so glad bands like The Cat Empire have supported and nurtured. Little Quirks are easily a band I would go out of my way to see live time and time again, and I’ll treasure being able to witness their performance and connect with them in such an intimate setting as I watch them grow as a band, going on to no doubt, much bigger and better things, hopefully in the not-so-distant future! Well done guys, and thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable night!
